Dover Police have arrested a homeless man, identified as Stefan B. Ewell, 26, after he was caught driving a stolen car.
The car was taken during a home break-in that took place at approximately 1:30 p.m. Aug. 18, said police spokesman Lt. Daniel McKeown.
The burglary took place at a home in the first block of South Bradford Street, McKeown said. The burglar got into the home by cutting a second-story screen from on the fire escape. Once inside, the burglar took food and the keys to a 2006 Chevrolet Impala. That car later turned up missing.
Approximately nine hours later, at 10:32 p.m. a Dover patrol officer spotted the Impala with Ewell at the wheel. The car was stopped and Ewell arrested without incident.
Ewell was charged with second-degree burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and criminal mischief. He was jailed at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center, Smyrna, in default of a $6,750 secured bond.
