L. Kenneth Smith died as the result of a heart attack Thursday, August 15 at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mr. Smith was born August 23, 1947 in Dover to the late Leroy Smith and Florence Yetter Smith. He was a graduate of Dover High School (Class of 1965) and Embry- Riddle Aeronautical School, Daytona Beach, FL. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Mr. Smith then worked as a maintenance supervisor with Playtex, retiring in 2006.
Ken was devoted to his family and friends and enjoyed many happy miles on his Harley Davidson motorcycles, on long solo trips and frequent local rides with friends. He also enjoyed travelling with his wife, Mary Sue. Together they enjoyed winters in Florida and exploring other parts of the country.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 19 years, Mary Sue Thawley Smith and her daughters, Michelle Bell and Renee Morris and her husband Gary, grandson Zach Bell, sister and brother-in-law, Sallie and Mike Scarborough, his beloved niece and nephew, Maggie and Will Scarborough, several cousins and many friends and riding buddies.
Burial will be private.
A memorial service will be held at Trader Funeral Home, Lotus Street, Dover at 11:00am on Saturday, August 24. Friends may call from 10:00am. All are invited to participate in a brief motorcycle ride after the service as a final tribute to Ken.
