Two Middletown area high schools have been selected to participate in the 4th Annual Blue-Gold Kickoff Classic sponsored by DFRC, Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens with intellectual disABILITIES (DFRC) and the Delaware Interscholastic Football Coaches Association (DIFCA).
The Delaware state high school football season will open Thursday, September 5, with the Appoquinimink Jaguars hosting the Woodbridge Blue Raiders at Jaguar Stadium at 7 p.m. In addition, the St. Georges Hawks will travel downstate to face the Laurel Bulldogs in T. Robert Ruston Memorial Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The contests will recognize past DFRC Blue-Gold participants from each school and representatives of DFRC's Hand-in-Hand Program. Tickets for the St. Georges-Laurel game will be available for $5.00 at the gate. Tickets for the Woodbridge-Appoquinimink game are $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.There will also be a limited amount of DFRC Blue-Gold merchandise on sale at both games.
The intention of this annual event is to increase awareness about DFRC's mission to enrich the lives of Delawareans with intellectual disabilities.Since 1956, the DFRC Blue-Gold All-Star Football Game has provided statewide competition at the University of Delaware Stadium to culminate a five-month program, offering high school seniors awareness, understanding, and an opportunity to be paired with a child or young adult who has an intellectual disability.
