Dover’s Fox Post 2 was able to split their two opening games in the 2013 American Legion Baseball State Tournament which began over the weekend in New Castle, Del.

The tournament did not start the way Fox Post 2 wanted, as they fell to Delaware Post 1 5-4 on Saturday after a 3-run Post 1 bottom of the ninth.

Conner Chasanov pitched 7 tough innings, pitching around 6 hits and 6 walks to give up just 2 earned runs in the game.

Nick Spadafino led the way with the bat for Fox Post 2 going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI. Chasanov and Kyle Mace combined to go 4-for-8 with 3 runs scored in the loss.

After scoring 2 runs in both the first and fifth innings, Fox Post 2 took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth.

While Spadafino was dangerous with the bat, the game got away from Fox Post 2 once he took the mound in relief of Chasanov. Delaware Post 1 knocked in 3 runs on 5 hits against Sapdafino to win the game in the bottom of the ninth.

If the loss on Saturday bothered Fox Post 2, the didn’t show on Sunday against the Post 10 Generals. Fox Post 2 bounced back in a big way on Sunday defeating Post 10 15-3 in 7 innings.

Fox Post jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning after a Post 10 error that scored both Dakota Graham and Nick Spadafino.

Kyle Mace led the way for Fox Post 2 on the mound, keeping the Generals off the board until the sixth inning.

Fox Post continued their offensive onslaught in the third inning scoring 6 runs after batting around to take a commanding 8-0 lead over the Generals after just 2 1/2  innings of play.

Fox Post 2 would go on to score 7 more runs over the next 2 innings leading 13-0 after 5 innings.

Post 10 was able to draw 3 runs across the plate in the sixth but the game was called after 7 innings.

The rest of the days American Legion tournament action was postponed until Monday due to lightening. Fox Post 2 is back in action on Tuesday when they take on the loser of Monday’s Stahl Post 30 (1)/Delaware Post 1 (3) contest.
