Grammy winner JJ Cale died Friday at the age of 74, according to his website. The musician suffered a heart attack and passed away in a La Jolla, Calif.,hospital.
Cale, a vocalist, guitarist and keyboardist, is best known for writing some ofEric Clapton's most notable hits, including "After Midnight" and "Cocaine."The two also collaborated on the 2006 Grammy-winning album The Road to Escondido. Other notable musicians who covered Cale's work include Lynyrd Dkynyrd, Santana, Tom Petty and Johnny Cash.
