Officers with the Harrington Police Department have charged a local man, Irvin B. Green, 21, on suspicion of shoplifting.
Police stopped Green and a second man at 1:22 a.m. Wednesday while on patrol on South DuPont Highway, said police spokesman Lt. Earl Brode. Both men were acting in a suspicious manner, Brode said.
When searched, police found several cigarette lighters and food items in Green's pockets. Because they were near a Valero convenience store, Green was taken into custody and driven to the store where police were able to determine the items in his pockets had been taken without payment.
Green was issued a criminal summons for shoplifting and released pending a future court appearance. All of the stolen items were returned to the store.
The second man was questioned, then released without being charged.
