  • Dr. Benjamin Carson will be the guest speaker at the Frederick Douglass Foundation of Delaware dinner on Aug. 10.
    The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Dover Downs Hotel and Conference Center, 1131 N. Dupont Highway, Dover. Carson is a professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics at the John Hopkins School of Medicine. He has directed pediatric neurosurgery at the John Hopkins Children's Center for more than a quarter century.
    Carson became the inaugural recipient of a professorship dedicated in his name in May 2008. His accomplishments include the first and only successful separation of Siamese twins joined at the back of the head in 1987, the first completely successful separation of type-2 vertical Siamese twins in 1997 in South Africa, and the first successful placement of an intrauterine shunt for a hydrocephalic twin.
    The Frederick Douglass Foundation, founded in 2004, is the largest Christ-centered, multi-ethnic ministry in America. Dr. Kim Warfield of Dover is president of the Delaware chapter which was started in February 2013.
