  • Harriett (Pruski) Gately of Camden, Delaware passed away suddenly, Tuesday July 2, 2013 at home. Ms. Gately was born December 14, 1954 in Dover, Delaware to Lt. Col. Charles E. Pruski and Harriett Dearth Pruski. She was a graduate of Caesar Rodney High School, attained her A.A. Degree from Wesley College, a Bachelor’s Degree from West Chester University and credits toward her Master’s Degree from Delaware State University. As a teen she competed in the Miss Delaware Pageant, school sports and drama activates. Harriett went on to use her teaching skills with the CITE program of Delaware teaching English as a second language and GED skills. She later became director of the tutorial program at Delaware State University. She did private tutoring helping many students to proudly graduate and some into military service. Growing up in Rising Sun with her sister Patrice, they valued the rural life of the “Pine Tree Farm”, the house which her parents worked hard towards being a loving home. Surely her love of flowers and gardening stemmed from those days. She had a love of sports, especially college and professional football of which Ohio State and Washington Redskins were her favorites. As well as watching professional ice hockey with her sister. Her skill in needlework was amazing, regularly competing at the Delaware State Fair, she won many prize ribbons, especially for her cross stitch samplers. Harriett enjoyed old movies, civil war history, dogs, Bugs Bunny, and rock music, especially Neil Young. She bravely agreed to attend a Rolling Stones concert 10 years ago with her sister. She was baptized in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, her father’s faith, and had a strong belief in God, always remembering others in her prayers. On the passing of her father, she and her mother spent a lot of time together, doing yard work, enjoying lunch, browsing Spence’s Bazaar, and occasional trips to local beaches for rocks, shells and always saying Hi to many friends around town. Many of her good friends knew she enjoyed sending cards and letters to just say “Hello”. She will be missed by all her lifelong friends. Harriett was preceded in death by her father Lt. Col. Charles Pruski in 1999 and her mother Harriett Pruski in 2012. She is survived by her sister, Patrice Williams of Harrington and nephew, James Williams of Lewes. Friends may call from 6-8PM Wednesday July 10, 2013 at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be held 10AM Thursday July 11, 2013 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. Letters of condolences may be sent and guest book signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
