Dr. Ronald Lee Harpster, DDS of Dover passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at home. He was 79.
Dr. Harpster was born December 4, 1933 in Burnham, Pennsylvania to the late Robert E. Harpster and Eva M. Snook Harpster.
Dr. Harpster was a 1958 graduate of Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He attended dental school at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he graduated with honors in 1965. Dr. Harpster did his post graduate training at Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, DE. After graduating he entered private practice with Dr. Charles Hoch in Middletown, DE and opened his own private practice on Walker Road in Dover in 1969. Dr. Harpster retired in June of 2002 after more than 33 years of practicing dentistry.
Serving his community was very important to Dr. Harpster. He was a life member of the American Dental Association and the Delaware Dental Society. He served on the executive council and as president of the Kent Sussex Dental Society. He also served several years as a member of the board of directors of the Delaware Health Council, many years as a member of the State of Delaware Block Grant Committee (distribution of funds) and the Nemours Foundation as a member of their patient care Review Committee. Dr. Harpster served on the board of directors for Maple Dale Country Club where he was a member for 30 years. He served as Alumni Board Representative to Lycoming College. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge Post #1903, Dover.
Dr. Harpster enjoyed golf and the companionship of his friends at Maple Dale Country Club and his Friday night poker buddies of 40 years.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Loretta M. Simonson Harpster of Dover; sons, Robert A. Harpster of Middletown, Richard H. Harpster and his wife Melissa of Bear, DE; daughter, Donna Lee Williams and her husband John of Dover; granddaughters, Hollis Williams and Rachel Harpster.
