  • Josephine “Jo” Hathcock, 65, of Newark, Del., passed away July 5, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Josephine, affectionately known to her friends and family as Jo, was born March 21, 1948, in Wilmington, Del., daughter of the late John and Veronica (Quigley) Servino. She spent her career working as a nurse for the state of Delaware Public Health system, where she retired from the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill. Over the course of her 40 year nursing career she embodied compassion, concern, kindness, and dedication to all her patients both at work and outside of work. She enjoyed spending her free time researching the genealogy of her Irish and Italian relatives. Following her retirement she spent a great deal of time traveling with her beloved husband to locations including Williamsburg, Costa Rica, Panama, and Canada. The highlight of her trip to Panama was watching a ship pass through the Panama Canal. In 2010, she and her husband, Leroy, began geocaching as part of their travels collecting over a thousand caches in 15 states and one foreign country. She loved spending time with her family and never turned down the chance for a gathering. She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Leroy Hathcock of Newark; a son, James Hathcock and his wife, Maggie of Lincoln, Del.; a daughter, Susan Ritchie and her husband, David, of Vernon, Conn.; a granddaughter, Jessica Ritchie; and a sister, Ellen Servino of Wilmington. A service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Newark United Methodist Church, at 69 E. Main St., Newark, where friends and family may arrive one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, contribution checks may be made payable to The Helen F. Graham Cancer Center Division of Gynecologic Oncology and can be sent to the funeral home at R.T. Foard and Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. To send condolences, visit www.rtfoard.com.
