  • The United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, released more than $48,000 May 30 for the annual formula based Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program for the FY2013 local solicitation.
The Dover Police Department was listed as a disparate entity, along with Kent County. In previous years, the Smyrna Police Department was also listed on the disparate agency list, but the amount for the department using the formula calculation this year fell below $10,000.
The Dover Police Department will submit a joint application for the funds with Kent County. However, Kent County was not allocated any portion of the funds since its structure contains no law enforcement agency. The Dover Police Department plans to use its funds for technology upgrades which may include the purchase of a new voice-mail system.
The deadline for the joint application is July 9 and it will be submitted through the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office of Justice Program's Grants Management System electronically on-line.
