  • The Delaware State Police and the American Legion held graduation exercises June 28 at the Delaware State Police Training Academy in Dover, where 27 young men and women from across Delaware completed Trooper Youth Week 2013.
This was a weeklong training regimen that parallels much of what a Delaware state trooper would undergo while attending the State Police Training Academy, said Master Cpl. Gary Fournier.
Five local students were among the graduates: Vincent Chandler of Dover High School, Jonathon Pierson and Levi Shell of Polytech High School and Marquon Brady and Brandon Wood of Milford High School.
In addition to the rigors of the daily physical fitness schedule, the cadets attended classes that ranged from crash investigation to evidence detection and fraud investigation. During the entire week the cadets took up residence at the academy to give them a better understanding about the profession of law enforcement and what it takes to become a police officer.
This is the 42nd year for Trooper Youth Week and without the sponsorship of the American Legion the program could not be possible, Fournier said.
