  • Delaware State University has announced that three former Maryland high school lacrosse standouts will attend the university and compete for the Hornets next season.
Attacker Kiana Dawson of Millersville, Md., will join the Hornets this fall. Dawson recorded 47 goals and 13 assists to help lead Indian Creek Upper School to the 2013 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland conference championship this spring. She was selected as the 2013 IAAM Most Valuable Player as a senior this past season. Dawson was also selected as Indian Creek’s 2012-13 Outstanding Female Athlete.
In addition to earning four varsity lacrosse letters, Dawson also competed in basketball and soccer at Indian Creek.
Delaware State lacrosse will also welcome Montaiju Gilmore of Belcamp, Md., to the team next season. Gilmore scored nine goals in 12 games as a senior at Aberdeen High School, which qualified for the Maryland state playoffs this past season. She began the year as a defender before being moved to low attack at mid-season.
Defender Miranda Malagari of Frederick, Md., has also committed to the Hornets. Malagari collected five goals, two assists and 57 groundballs in 15 games as a senior at Tuscarora High School this past season. She helped lead the team to state playoffs this season, highlighted by a tournament victory over the undefeated No. 1 seed in the region. Malagari earned All-Area and All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition during her senior season. As a junior attacker in 2012, Malagari tallied 15 goals and 10 assists.
The Hornets have signed eight new players for their second season in 2014. The first five newcomers were announced last November.
