The YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program will hold a free diabetes screening event for seniors June 19 during Seniors Tell Diabetes Not Me week, June 17-22.
The event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at the Southern Meadow Adult Community Clubhouse, 109 Lavender Lane, Magnolia.
The nationally-renowned YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program will now be available for free for the first time to qualifying Medicare Part A or B recipients in Delaware.
The Diabetes Prevention and Control Alliance (DPCA) and the Y staff will be on site to evaluate seniors' risk of developing type two diabetes, educate them on the YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program in their community, and enroll qualifying participants into the program.
The Y-USA selected 17 communities across the country to offer the YMCA's Diabetes Prevention Program to Medicare part A or B beneficiaries.
The following locations will be offering the YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program in the upcoming months:
6 p.m. June 24 and 11:30 a.m. July 16, Sussex Family YMCA, 20080 Church St., Rehoboth Beach.
6 p.m. June 25, Brandywine YMCA, 3 Mount Lebanon Road, Wilmington.
1:15 p.m. June 26, Dover YMCA, 1137 S. State St, Dover.
6 p.m. July 1, Glasgow Medical Center, 2600 Glasgow Ave., Newark.
6 p.m. June 20, Calvary of God Church, 1141 E. Lebanon Road, Dover.
5:30 p.m. July 16, Western Family YMCA, 2600 Kirkwood Highway, Newark.
2 p.m. July 17, Luther Towers, 1420 N. Franklin St., Suite 1, Wilmington.
