  • A crash that occurred east of Milford Sunday afternoon left a Wyoming woman dead and a Dover man injured.
The crash occurred at 3:24 p.m. Sunday, as Melissa M. Perez, 39, of Wyoming, drove a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on Cedar Beach Road (State Route 36), west of Lighthouse Road. The vehicle failed to maneuver a left curve and exited the south edge of the roadway, said Delaware State Police Spokesman Cpl. John Day.
The vehicle traveled more than 600 feet through a soybean field before returning to the roadway, leaving the south edge of the roadway again, and striking a utility pole, Day said. The impact caused the vehicle to rotate counterclockwise while overturning onto its passenger side.
Melissa Perez was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in the vehicle, James Perez, 30, of Dover, was transported to Milford Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Both the driver and passenger were not properly restrained at the time of the crash, Day said.
The roadway was closed for approximately three hours as troopers investigated and cleared the crash. The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation.
