The 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Baseball All-Academic selections were announced last week, with the Delaware State Hornets having the most selections in the conference.
The MEAC announced a total of 81 student-athletes from the league’s nine baseball playing schools had a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.0 or higher. Non-freshmen, along with transfer student-athletes with at least one year at the institution are eligible for all-academic recognition.
Delaware State had a league-high 16 MEAC All-Academic Baseball selections. Bethune-Cookman, Savannah State and North Carolina Central were tied for second with 12 each.
“I congratulate our baseball student-athletes who have maintained a 3.0. or better grade point average during this academic year,” said MEAC Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas. “In addition to recognizing the student-athletes, I applaud the athletic academic support staff, coaches and all persons who contributed to their academic success.”
Delaware State Head Baseball Coach J.P. Blandin says the Hornets’ academic success is a source of pride for the team and the university.
“Our guys take the same competitive approach in the classroom that they do on the field,” Blandin said. “They players and their families, along with the DSU athletics administration and academic support staff deserve a great deal of credit for the team’s classroom success.”
The Hornets posted a 33-15 overall record and captured their second straight MEAC Northern Division title with a 21-3 league mark during the 2013 season.
