Members of the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident involving a Felton man.
The accident took place at around 8:50 p.m. Saturday, said police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier. The pedestrian, identified as Garabed D. Zakarian, 55, of Smyrna, was walking two dogs from the east to the west side of Route 1. He was struck by a 2001 Jeep Wrangler as he stepped into the right lane of the southbound side of the highway, Fournier said.
The driver of the Jeep, identified as R. Brandon Jones, 68, of Felton, immediately pulled into a motel parking lot.
Zakarian was pronounced dead at the scene, Fournier said. The two golden retrievers escaped, but were later found uninjured.
Jones was not injured.
The southbound side of Route 1 was closed for approximately three hours as detectives conducted their investigation, Fournier said.
No charges have been filed.
