A Harrington woman has been arrested after it was reported she had tried to open an account in another person's name.
Tammy Lasher, 38, was taken into custody May 23, said Harrington Police Department spokesman Lt. Earl Brode.
Police opened their investigation after being told by the victim that someone had opened an account in her name. Their investigation also showed someone had tried unsuccessfully to open a second account in the woman's name as well, Brode said.
Evidence uncovered during the inquiry identified Lasher, who is the aunt of the victim, as the suspect.
Lasher was charged with identity theft, attempted identity theft and theft by false pretenses under $1,500. She later was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
