  • James Arthur “Jim” Hutchison Jr., age 95, of Felton, Delaware, passed away peacefully at home on May 8, 2013, surrounded by his family.
He was born October 25, 1917, in Gainesville, Missouri, to Dora and James Arthur Hutchison, Sr., and spent most of his childhood in Bixby, Oklahoma. He attended Oklahoma A&M and Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he developed his lifelong love of aviation and flying, and met his future wife, Imogene Cox. They married in 1946. After many years of owning auto parts and salvage stores, they relocated their family to Delaware in 1968 to work for ILC Industries in the Apollo Space Program.
In 1978, Jim and Imogene started JAED Corporation, an engineering firm, and Jim was actively involved in the business into his mid-eighties. Jim was an avid pilot and flight instructor and while in Delaware taught many students to fly. Flying was his second great love, next to his family. He was also an enthusiastic fan of the Phillies.
Jim was a member of First Baptist Church of Dover since 1968, where he was the chairman of the Board of Trustees for several years, which he enjoyed very much. He was instrumental in the construction of the new church building on Walker Road.
He is survived by Imogene, his wife of 67 years, his sister Betty Jean Cook of Tulsa OK, his three children, Judith L. Cowan, James A. Hutchison, III and his wife Karen of Dover and Janet G. Flood and her husband Roger of Glen Rock, PA. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Aaron and Reid Cowan, Sarah and James Flood, and Tyler and Caroline Hutchison, and one great-grandchild, Savanna Love Cowan.
