  • The season has not gone as the Lake Forest Girls Soccer squad may have hoped when they started the season. However, with a young and inexperienced team featuring only 4 seniors, growing pains were inevitable.
After a lot of hard work and some tough losses, the Lady Spartan’s were rewarded with a 4-1 victory over Pencader on Saturday morning.
Morgan Gannon led the way for the Lady Spartans tallying 2 goals and adding an assist in the victory over Pencader.
Gannon struck early for her first goal, just 8:00 into the contest to give the Spartans an early 1-0 lead. Just 12:00 later Gannon would score her second goal of the contest to increase the Lake Forest lead to 2-0 heading into the break.
In the second half, Pencader would cut the Lake Forest lead in half at 45:00. At the 71:00 mark, Gannon would find Kori Johnson for a goal to give the Spartans a commanding 3-1 lead.  Just 6 minutes later Summer Gannon, younger sister of Morgan, iced the game with a goal of her own to seal the 4-1 victory.
The win for the Spartans on Saturday was just their third win of the season, but a well-deserved one.
This Lake Forest squad has only 4 seniors and is predominantly made up of underclassmen. And while the season has been a tough one when it comes to wins and losses, Head Coach Vince Davis believes they are building something at Lake Forest.
“We only have three games left in this season, so I’m not really looking at any individual to make the magic happen as much as concentrating on everyone stepping up their game in a positive manner,” Davis said. “As for the future, we are trying to encourage all the players to go to soccer camps and basically improve on their technical skills during the off season.”
The Lady Spartans are back in action on Thursday, May 9 when they host Polytech starting at 4:00 p.m.
