Tomorrow's stars from the Inner City Cultural League, Inc., will showcase their classical skills in the Sankofa Spring String Concert on Saturday.
The concert will feature eight ICCL musicians between the ages of 6 and 14, spanning skill levels from intermediate and advanced, led by composer Kimberly Gladney. All but one instrument in the show (the keyboard) will be stringed. The others instruments featured in the show will be the violin, upright bass and viola. Musicians will perform three pieces: a Civil Rights medley comprised of Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water," "We Shall Overcome" and "Lift Every Voice and Sing," written by James Weldon Johnson with music by his brother, John Rosamond. The young musicians will also tackle Johann Sebastian Bach's "Air," George Frideric Handel's "Water Music" and Reynard Burns' "Tango Noir."
The ICCL will use proceeds from the concert toward paying for its new building, located on 39 S. West St., directly behind the building where it's currently operating in on 54 S. Kirkwood St.
The ICCL, a community arts center offering foreign language and music classes, as well as theater arts training, needs approximately $100,000 to pay off its new building, which costs an estimated $800,000, said ICCL founder Reuben Salters. Salters said the ICCL's new building will be operational by winter of this year.

Not in the mood to spend any cash this weekend? No worries! The Oscar-winning documentary "Searching for Sugar Man" will be shown at the Dover Public Library for free on Friday and Saturday.
The film's heroes and villains are more amazing than fiction, including the subject: a supposedly failed '70s-era singer-songwriter from Detroit, Mich., two determined fans who struggled to find out what happened to him, and producers who may have profited from the singer's surprising and secret popularity in apartheid South Africa.
This incredible true story features new and vintage footage and has been a hit at many film festivals.
