A 21-year-old man from Newark was arrested on drug possession charges Saturday in Cheswold.
The arrest came while the officer was on a distracted driver detail, said Chief of Police Christopher Workman. The officer turned on his emergency lights and siren while trying to stop a car in the Parker's Run development, only to have the car make an abrupt U-turn and head toward the officer's vehicle before stopping.
The officer contacted the driver, identified as Tymere Kenney, and detected the odor of marijuana, Workman said. The officer took Kenney into custody after spotting a clear bag that he suspected contained marijuana. A test for the substance came up positive for the drug, which weighed 15 grams.
Kenney was charged with possession of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; driving without a learners permit in possession; and driving with an electronic device.
Kenney was processed at Justice of the Peace Court 7, then released on a $1,100 unsecured bond.
