There was deliberate and well considered methodology in determining how much each non-profit arts organization received from the festival.
ThE chosen ones who energized their boards and their supporters to not only attend but also to donate to the silent auction received a greater percentage of the proceeds. A similar mathematical structure was used in last fall's Collabragala at the Riverfront. It would have been mightily unfair otherwise.
The troglodytes whine that it should have been equally distributed. Take a deep breath. You were fortunate to be included and whatever you received is more than you had PRIOR.
I surmise that DE Theatre Co made out so well because Mike Kullman is on their board. You may have heard of his wife, head of a 200 year old DE based company. They stepped up to the plate and invited guests to their home to the tune of $1000 per ticket. The Kullmans designated DTC the beneficiary of their largesse. (Moral? Choose your board members wisely).
Ajit George, major domo of this grand event, admitted mistakes. What he and his firm attempted to do is to create a festival that would be widely admired. With great risks come even greater rewards. We should support his vision.
Owing that I have a strong link to Hagley due to my one man show The DuPont Story A Family A Company, I attended an invited affair last eve at the Museum celebrating their new exhibit on nylon. A surprisingly poor turnout. One would think Hagley has tens of thousands on their mail lists. I would suggest there were 60 attendees, one third of whom were employees and vendors.
Geoff Halfpenny, the ED is retiring. I was told there is a national search. Perhaps the new ED will create a bit more energy for public events. Unlike Ajit George, Hagley's reach has traditionally been inward. What a beautiful sylvan spot on the banks of our Brandywine this pacific spring evening.
Rock n' Roll Legends at The Grand April 27
There's goin' be a whole lot of doo-woopin' goin' on this evening. The PBS series has always been a bit hit and this show has collective talent that equals that.
Jimmy Clanton, The Tokens, The Classics, The Passions, The Chymes, The Original Tymes, The Legendary Teenagers. All this and the emcee is Lou Costello of Radio Station WVLT.
