  • Hornets silenced by St. Joe's

  • Liz Mendez tossed a two-hit shutout to lead St. Joseph’s to a 6-0 softball win over Delaware State today. The Hawks (26-4-1) scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back for their fourth straight win, and 19th in the last 20 games.
    The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Hornets, who fell to 15-24.
    St. Joe’s scored its first run on a wild pitch by DSU’s Jen Fischbach. Brandi Harkness had a two-run double later in the first inning to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead.
    St. Joe’s added runs in the fourth and fifth innings to close out the scoring.
    Ashley Bennett had each of Delaware State’s two hits, singling in the second and seventh innings.
    Mendez (5-3) struck out 11 DSU batters, while walking one. Fischbach (4-8) suffered the loss for Delaware State.
    The Hornets return to action with a doubleheader at Towson on Wednesday. The first game gets underway at 3:00 p.m.
