  • Gertrude W. Becker died Friday, March 29, 2013.
    Born on October 10, 1929 in Vienna, Austria , she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Carolina Fruhauf.  She came to the United States in 1946 and married Loren Becker on February 16, 1947.
    With her husband Loren, they started Parkway Delicatessen and then moved downtown and opened up Center City  Delicatessen.  After Loren’s retirement, Gertrude and her daughter
    Debbie had the McDowell Collins Storehouse on State Street for 13 years.
    Gertrude enjoyed traveling, especially to her birthplace Vienna. She was a member of the Modern Maturity Center where she loved to swim and meet with her friends in the singles club.
    She liked to read and loved spending time with her family.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loren Becker and a sister, Hermi Dapson.
    She is survived by 3 children, Virginia (Gary) Stern of Glendale, Arizona, Walter (Kathy) Becker of Dover, Debbie (Bobby) Moore of Slaughter Beach; sister Poldi Goodpaster of Lexington, Kentucky;  brother in law, Paul (Betty) Becker; grandchildren Brian (Trish) Everett, Matthew Becker  and Jennifer Becker all of Dover; great-grandson, Dylan Everett of Dover and many nieces, nephews and friends.
    Family and friends may call Thursday April 4, 2013 from 6 to 8 PM at Trader Funeral Home 12 Lotus Street Dover, DE Remembrance service will be Friday at 11 AM at Trader Funeral Home with Burial at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE at 1 PM
