    2012-2013 Record: (3-9)

    Head Coach: Joe Macaluso

Key Returning Players: Bobby Cognetta, CJ Rahn, JT Tober, Chris Jannuzzio

Season Outlook: The Sussex Central Golden Knights Boys Lacrosse squad begins a brand new season looking to put last year’s 3-9 finish behind them. However, they’ll have to do so without a large chunk of their core. The Golden Knights lost 8 seniors to graduation last season and now they must find out who is capable of filling those holes. Bobby Cognetta is one player the Golden Knights look to help carry the load. The Golden Knights are also looking for some contributions from some of their underclassmen this year. Josh Whitehead at Attack and Defender Brandon Messick are two underclassmen to keep an eye for the Golden Knights this season. Overall, there is a different mindset at Central this season, the program is heading in another direction. Whether or not that direction will provide any results when it comes to wins and losses has yet to be seen. However, there will surely be some tangible evidence by season’s end that shows this Central Lacrosse program is heading in the right direction.

From the Coach: “First and foremost, we want to strive to win our conference,” said Head Coach Joe Macaluso. “We understand how competitive and demanding this conference is, but we truly believe that this is a special team that can compete at the level of Cape Henlopen and Caesar Rodney. Our second goal this year is to beat the teams that no one expects us to beat. Quite Honestly, that is pretty much everyone in our conference,” Macaluso continued. “Sussex Central has not had a conference win since 2009 vs. Milford. It is time for that to change in a big way. Our Third goal this year is to improve in every phase of the game throughout the season and win the groundball battle in every game. Lastly, we have got to play our style of lacrosse. The days of Sussex Central being this big, bruising team that just takes the field to hit people are gone. We can play this game just like any of the best teams in the state when we want to and when we are enjoying ourselves. When we do those things, anything is possible for us.

Season Outlook: After a 9-6 season and a berth into the State Tournament last season, the Sussex Tech Ravens Lacrosse squad returns with much of their team intact. While they did lose 15 seniors from last year’s squad, they have 10 players returning from last season. Jeffrey Klabe looks to help carry some of the scoring load along with newcomers Nathan Crum and Scott Powell. With a good mix of experience and youth, the Ravens hope to once again compete in the Henlopen Conference and hopefully find themselves back in the State Tournament.
