The Lake Forest Middle School Ice Hockey Team defeated  the Wilmington Nighthawks to become the champions of the 2013 Delaware Scholastic Youth Hockey League on Saturday, March 9, 2013.

"I'm really pleased at the effort of my returning and experienced players, as well as the growth, development, and determination of the new members" says head coach Jeff Grable.  Grable, a former Villanova hockey coach, has been coaching ice hockey since 1997.  Adding support and skill to the coaching staff are Eddie McGuire and Kenny Boots.

The team started out the day with a win in the semi-finals against the Delaware Snipers.  The final score was 5 to 3, advancing Lake to the final match-up against the Wilmington Nighthawks.

The final game took place Saturday evening.  The Nighthawks were a tough match up for Lake, but in the end, the Spartans came out on top.  With a win of 7 to 4, Lake took home the Championship.

Scoring for the Spartans were Hunter McGuire, Parker Garrison, Connor Banks, John Gaglione, and Alexis Herman.  A great defensive effort was displayed by Kaden Boots, Mason Harding, and goalie Shane Gaglione.

The team is combined of many Lake Forest students, as well as some students from nearby schools who do not have a full team.  The 16 game season started in October, and ended this past weekend.  The Spartans practice and play at the Centre Ice Rink in Harrington, located on the Delaware State Fairgrounds.

The Lake Forest Middle School team is entering its 3rd season of play in the Delaware Scholastic Hockey League.

The teams play as an "Un-pure" team in the Middle School No-Check league, meaning open enrollment to all hockey players in 5th through 8th grades throughout local schools and districts. We eventually intend to field a pure varsity team in the Delaware Scholastic Hockey Association.

Registration skates/spring practices will be held in May and June for the team.
