Lefty Travis Dill pitched four scoreless, and the Riders offense exploded for 5 runs in the 5th inning on their way to a 6-2 win over Middletown on Friday.
Dill finished with 6 strikeouts, earning his first win of the season. Gabe Rivera and Kendall Wicks both finished 2 for 3 on the day.
After 2 innings of scoreless baseball, the Riders struck first to take a 1-0 lead into the bottom half of the third inning.
Middletown’s Brennan McAllister and Tommy Davis would drive in runs for the Cavaliers to put them ahead 2-1 heading into the 4th.
Dill would enter the game in the 4th taking over for Aaron Briggs.
In the top of the fifth the Riders would get to Middletown pitcher Kyle Spotts. Kendall Wicks, Brennen Brown and Gabe Rivera helped the CR offense click, all driving in runs in the inning.
The Middletown defense didn’t help out Spotts; the Cavaliers committed as many errors as the team had hits on Friday, with 4 in the loss.
Dill would shut the door the rest of the way, giving the Riders the 6-2 victory.
The Riders return to the diamond on Monday for their home-opener against Seaford. First pitch: 4:00 p.m.
