A fatal motorcycle crash occurred at around 4:05 p.m. on Tuesday, south of Dover. Ann E. Breeding was driving a 2008 Hyundai Tiburon and was attempting to travel northbound on South State Street upon exiting from a private business located on the west side of the road just north of Highview Avenue. Lawrence A. Kibler Jr. was operating a 2000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on South State Street as the Hyundai pulled into the path of the motorcycle, causing it to strike the front left corner of the car. Lawrence and his wife, Judy Kibler, were thrown from the motorcycle and into the roadway after the impact. Breeding was able to bring her vehicle to a controlled stop after the collision.
Judy Kibler, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported from the scene by EMS to Kent General Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Lawrence Kibler, who also was not wearing a helmet, was initially transported to KGH but later flown to Christiana Medical Center where he is listed in serious condition.
Ann Breeding, who was properly restrained, was not injured.
South State Street, between Highview Avenue and Webbs Lane, was closed for two hours as the crash was investigated and cleared. The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident and charges are pending.
