  • Shirley Cox Shane of Smyrna, Delaware passed away Sunday March 10, 2013 at Kent General Hospital. She was 76.
    She was born April 7, 1936 in Dover, Delaware to the late Lee Cox and Grace Glanden Cox.
    Mrs. Shane was a homemaker and enjoyed playing cards, going to the beach, gardening, crabbing, traveling and being outdoors. Her greatest pleasure was being with her family especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Smyrna.
    In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Howard, Allen, Leroy Cox and sister Mary Ellen Millman.
    She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Earl T. Shane; sons, Gary Shane and his wife Dawn of Smyrna, Eric Shane and his wife, Donna of Camden; Terri Willis and her husband Robert of Middletown; brothers, George Cox and his wife Vicky of High Springs, FL, Robert Cox and his wife Cheryl of Frederica; sisters, Cindy Sanderson and her husband Robert of Dover, Naomi Breazeale and her husband Tom of Springfield, MO; grandchildren, Caitlin, Aurora, Erin and Leigh Willis, Zachery and Liam Shane; special friends, the Kennedy’s, Mark, Cindy, Alli and Kayla.
    Funeral services will be held 2pm Friday, March 15, 2013 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover. Friends may call from 12 till 2. Interment will be 10AM, Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
    In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Citizen's Hose Fire Company P.O. Box 97, Smyrna, DE 19977.
