Lee E. Yates, Sr. of Hartly passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013 at home. He was 74.
Mr. Yates was born January 25, 1939 in Townsend, Tennessee to Hazel Tipton. He grew up in the Smokey Mountains and loved those mountains so.
He joined the United States Air Force for 2 years in commercial transport, which is what brought him to Dover, De, where he met the love of his life, Diana Lee in 1957. He then worked for Pughs Service as a mechanic for 47 years. After retiring people still brought cars, lawn mowers, etc to him to tinker with because of his talent at fixing just about anything. He also loved being outside in his garden and spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Yates was a wonderful father and grandfather and worked very hard to support his family.
In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Diana Lee Yates, 2011, son, Eddie Yates, 2005.
He is survived by his son, Mark Yates and his wife Sharon of PA; daughter, Donna Moran and her husband Joey of Hartly; sister, Nila; brothers, Howard Yates and Lowell Yates both of TN; and six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by a very special companion and friend Sharon Barilla who brought lots of smiles the last year of his life and his brother Howard who came to stay with him during his illness, they spent lots of time catching up on the good ole times and sharing laughter. He will be missed very much.
