  • Delaware State Police will begin accepting applications from boys and girls interested in attending for the annual summer program at Camp Barnes in Frankford starting Friday.
The state police host the free, five-day overnight recreational camp for all Delaware boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 13.
This year, boys will have their choice of attending one of three camp weeks, including June 24 to 28, July 8 to July 12 or July 29 to Aug 2. Girls will be able to attend a camp week from July 1 to July 5, July 22 to July 26 or Aug. 5 to Aug. 9.
About 60 campers can be accommodated each week.
Children who participate will be able to enjoy swimming, kayaking, arts and crafts, nature walks, talent shows, fishing and crabbing, basketball and soccer.
The program also includes a mini-Olympics and demonstrations by the state police K-9 unit, DNREC, the state attorney general’s office, and the Girl Scouts of America, among others.
Campers are required to get a physical exam or an updated physical exam prior to being accepted.
State troopers remain on the grounds throughout the camp, which is staffed by 12 counselors, two cooks, one nurse and one kitchen assistant.
Applications for campers and camp counselors, and orientation dates, can be found at www.campbarnes.net. Camper applications also can be found at Delaware State Police Troops.
Applications and physicals must be turned in by May 15.
