James B. Duke of Hartly died Saturday February 23, 2013 at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was 82.
Mr. Duke was born May 2, 1930 in Nettleboro, AL to the late Frank and Etta Wardell Duke. He was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He had worked for the State Highway Department as a concrete quality control technician for 35+ years. Mr. Duke was a little league baseball umpire, enjoyed watching cowboy western shows, gardening, especially roses, NASCAR and the University of Alabama football, “Roll Tide”. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. Duke was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ethel, in 2009. He is survived by 3 sons, Daniel Duke and wife Michelle of Dover, David Duke and wife Vickie of Ellendale, and Douglas Duke and wife Robbi of Bowers Beach; daughter Deborah Duke of Hartly; 5 grandchildren, Lauren Martin and husband Eric, Christopher Duke and his wife Kalie, Amber Duke, Andrew Duke and wife Ashley, and James Duke; and 5 great-grandchildren, Austin Duke Walls, Corey Duke and Aubree Duke, Charlotte and Evelyn Martin; sisters, Betsy Walker and her husband Dick of AL, and Henrietta Thomas of Atlanta, Ga.
Funeral Service will be 11am Friday, March 1, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover. Friends may call Thursday evening 6-8pm. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
