In the coming weeks, Bayhealth will officially recognize its emergency department team for providing 12 months of emergency care in the new facility.
Since the department opened last year, overall volume has increased eight percent, and the number of patients admitted to beds from the department is up five percent. Ten new full-time positions and eight relief positions have been created over the last year in response to patient volumes. The staff now numbers over 80.
Patient satisfaction scores rose from 36 percent to 67 percent, indicating that the large majority of the transition has been a very positive experience for those we serve.
As the one year mark ticks by, change is still underway. This month, the emergency staff has implemented the Split Flow model of emergency care to expedite processes and ensure that patients receive necessary care in the most efficient, effective way possible. The Split-Flow approach reduces the time patients wait to see a healthcare provider by managing patients according to the severity of their conditions.
Several celebratory events have been planned to thank employees for their excellent service and teamwork throughout the change process.
In conjunction with its first anniversary, the Bayhealth Kent General Emergency Department is holding its second annual ED Artwork Contest for area students. Children enrolled in grades three through twelve in the Capital and Caesar Rodney School Districts are eligible for contest entry.
