  • Louis Helish (Lutz Helischkowski) was born February 9, 1931 in Berlin, Germany, Louis passed away on Tuesday, February 12th at the Pinnacle Nursing Home in Smyrna, DE, he was 82 years old.  He was born in Berlin Germany on February 9th, 1931 to Alex and Herta Helischkowski.
    Louis, his parents, Herta and Alex, his sisters Ursela (Susan) and Gabrielle (Gabi) were interned at Camp Theresin in Czechoslovakia in 1942.  In 1944 his father, Alex, was killed in the gas chamber at Auschwitz.  In 1945 he, his mother, and his two sisters were repatriated by the Russian military.  In 1946, they were sent back to Germany, and in 1947 they arrived in New York.
    In 1949, at the age of 18, Louis enlisted in the United States Army; he served throughout the world in places such as Germany, Greenland, and Vietnam.  After serving honorably for twenty years, Louis finally retired in 1969.  Upon entering civilian life, he joined the Paul Revere Insurance Company, which he retired from in 1993, but remained an agent until 2003.  He married his wife, Genevieve in 1994.
    Louis is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Genevieve A. (Jeanne) Helish of Delaware, his children, including Virginia Barker of Indianapolis, Joann Mundorf of Rhode Island, Michael A. Helish of Florida, Barbara, and her brother Dirk, James B. Dambach and his wife, Nancy,  of Sayreville, New Jersey, Judith Kosner of Ohio, and Kathleen J. Smith of Florida; his sister, Susan Rojas, and her husband, George, of Florida, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
    A viewing for Louis will take place on Tuesday, February 19th from 10AM to12 Noon at the Pippin Funeral Home in Wyoming, DE, services will begin at Noon, and burial will take place at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE at 2PM.
