  • A domestic incident that resulted in a three-hour standoff between the suspect and Delaware State Police troopers ended peacefully Tuesday.
State Police responded to a residence on the 6000 block of Willow Gove Road to check on the welfare of a juvenile girl at approximately 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, State Police Cpl. John Day said. When troopers arrived at the residence they learned that the girl had been physically assaulted by an adult family member after an argument earlier in the day, he said.
The Troopers determined that the suspect was armed and intoxicated and locked in his bedroom at the residence, Day said.
Troopers removed the female victim from the residence and set up a perimeter. Members of the Delaware State Police Conflict Management Team and Special Operations Response Team responded to the residence and, for approximately three hours, attempted to communicate with the suspect. But, he refused to exit the bedroom.
Eventually the suspect willingly exited the residence and was taken into custody without further incident. The suspect, who was not injured, was transported to Kent General Hospital for an evaluation.
Further information may be released once the suspect is formally charged and arraigned.
