MITZI GAYNOR @ DuPont Theatre           FEB 16 &17

Following the success of their 'game changer' OKLAHOMA, Rodgers & Hammerstein journeyed into film once again with the blockbuster SOUTH PACIFIC.

Mary Martin and Ezio Pinza were the leads on Broadway and were the initial choices for the movie. Pinza died and Doris Day was offered the role of Nellie Forbush. She declined. Elizabeth Taylor auditioned but her voice was frightful.

Which leads us to this Saturday and Sunday at The DuPont Theatre.....drum roll....Mitzi Gaynor. Gaynor had previously done musicals and with the international success of the movie, a new star was born. She went on to star in ANYTHING GOES, THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS, among others.

Razzle Dazzle! My Life Behind the Sequins is an intimate evening of laughs, love & music. In this glittering one woman performance the audience is showered with a personal peek into her life and career through stories and reflections interwoven with classic songs, remarkable video montages and breathtaking Bob Mackie costume creations.

She certainly had famous friends and costars including Gene Kelly, Ethel Merman, Rossano Brazzi and Marilyn Monroe. Add to that a romance with the ultimate high flyer Howard Hughes.

Video footage (culled from Mitzi’s television, concert and film work) and a cavalcade of familiar Hollywood, Broadway and Pop hits.

MIDATLANTIC WINE + FOOD FESTIVAL    MARCH 6-10

Well, there's at least one organization pulling a kickin' and screamin' Delaware into "World Class" stature. That would be THIS one.

This four day event is a dizzying array of national and international winemakers, brewers and gourmet chefs who will enhance our state - and certainly our image - as a major player for worldwide oenophiles and gastronomes.

To say this is thinking big is to say Gov Chris Christie is a tad overweight. The festival benefits the Charitable Fund of the same name at the DE Community Foundation.  The fund donates 100% of the net proceeds to 9 statewide arts organizations. We all win!

The central venue is The Festival Village, an 8000 sq.ft. tent encompassing Rodney Square. Others include everything from Harry's Savoy Grill to Oberod, Piccolina Toscana to The Green Room, the home of DuPont Pres Ellen Kullman to Mt. Cuba, the childhood home of Gerret Copeland. This event is a jaw dropper.
