Delaware State Police investigators have arrested two brothers in connection with the Saturday afternoon robbery of Mr. B's Wine and Spirits liquor store in Dover.
Joshua T. Smith, 21, of Camden, and his brother, Dajaniel L. Smith, 20, of Dover, were arrested without incident at their respective homes Thursday morning by detectives, Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said. They were transported back to Troop 3 near Camden.
Joshua Smith was charged with second-degree robbery, conspiracy and shoplifting, Fournier said. He was arraigned at Delaware Justice of the Peace Court 2 in Rehoboth Beach and committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in Smyrna in lieu of $4,000 secured bond.
Dajaniel Smith was charged with second-degree robbery and conspiracy, Fournier said. He was arraigned at JP2 and committed to James T. Vaughn in lieu of $3,500 secured bond.
The Smith brothers stand accused of robbing Mr. B's at approximately 2 p.m. Jan. 26, Fournier said. A male suspect began casing the joint located on East Lebanon Road and then departed without making a purchase. Moments later a second suspect entered the liquor store, confronted the 44-year-old male employee located at the sales counter and implied that he had a gun, he said.
The suspect proceeded to the vodka aisle, removed two bottles from the display shelf and began to exit the business. As the suspect walked by the sales counter, the employee, armed with a baseball bat, attempted to hit the suspect, but missed.
The suspect then ran from the business on foot with the vodka. There were no injuries as a result of this incident.
Criminal Investigations detectives based out of Troop 3 then established the Smith brothers as suspects in this robbery.
