Two men arrested for attempted robberies.
Dover Police responded to a reported attempted robbery at Mr. B’s Liquors at 321 Independence Blvd., Wednesday.
An investigation revealed that Gary Palmer, 61, and Gene Schaeffer, 49, had entered the store and Palmer stated he had a gun. The clerk yelled and Palmer fled the store. The suspects were then seen fleeing the scene in a green Ford Ranger pickup truck.
A short time later, Dover Police again received a call about an attempted robbery at Acme at 1001 N. Dupont Highway. In that case, Palmer entered the store, brandished a knife and demanded money from the customer service clerk. That victim yelled for help, and Palmer fled the store without any money. He again entered the green Ford Ranger Pickup and fled the scene with Schaeffer.
The defendant’s vehicle was located by Dover Police in the parking lot of Dover Downs Casino. A search of the casino resulted in both suspects being taken into custody without incident. Several knives were recovered, as well. These suspects were later identified as the suspects who successfully robbed the Walgreens Pharmacy,1215 S. State St., at knife point on Jan. 13. Both defendants were arraigned on the robbery and two attempted robberies at Justice of the Peace Court No. 7 and were committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center default $78,000 secured bond.
