  • On Tuesday Jan. 22, the Dover Police responded to a call at the Sleep Inn, at 1784 N. DuPont Hyw, based on a report that a handgun was left in one of the rooms. Detectives found a .25 caliber handgun, both .25mm and 9mm ammunition and drug paraphernalia in the room. A further investigation revealed that William Black, of Chestertown MD, was the owner of the items. Officers awaited his return to the hotel after determining that he is prohibited from possessing a firearm. Upon his return, he fled in a vehicle, nearly striking one of the officers. A pursuit ensued which ended in the Wal-Mart parking lot north of Dover, where Black was apprehended and found to be a fugitive from Maryland. He was committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional in default of $17,500 secured bond.
