An 18-year-old man's car and another, parked car were damaged by gunfire early Sunday morning on the unit block of South Governors Avenue in Dover.
The victim was driving southbound on Governors Avenue at approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday and stopped when he saw an SUV turning around in the street, Dover Police Lt. Alan Rachko said. The victim also observed a large group of subjects standing just beyond the SUV.
The victim then observed a male wearing all black clothing pointing a gun in his direction, Rachko said. The suspect fired several rounds, striking the victim's vehicle.
The 18-year-old put his car in reverse and fled without being injured, Rachko said. Dover Police officers responded and discovered a parked vehicle was also damaged by gunfire, he said.
Police believed this incident stemmed from an earlier altercation and that the person or persons in the SUV were the likely targets, Rachko said. And he victim was likely caught in the crossfire.
The suspect or suspects faces charges of reckless endangering and criminal mischief.
