The second half of this theatre season promises stratospheric laughs, murder and mayhem and an ode to the heretofore unknown musical side of Adolph Hitler.
BOEING, BOEING opens at DTC on 23 Jan, running through 10 February. Originally a French farce, it was listed in Guiness Book as the most performed French play. Transformed into a film version in 1965, it starred Jerry Lewis and Tony Curtis, probably one reason why Lewis' zaniness is more highly regarded in France than America.
DTC's next show, LOVE, LOSS AND WHAT I WORE, stars Dawn Wills of Gilligan's Island celebrity. The final offering is a departure for the group, SOUTH PACIFIC.
Music must be in the air. As DTC mounts their first musical in years, REP ENSEMBLE is premiering a show that has never been produced in the state. THE THREEPENNY OPERA was written by legends: German dramatist Bertolt Brecht with music composed by Kurt Weill.
It challenges conventional notions of property as well as those of theatre. It dramatises the question: "Who is the greater criminal: he who robs a bank or he who founds one?" The Threepenny Opera is also an early example of musical comedy. The score has jazz influences.  It is most remembered for Bobby Darrin's signature song "The Ballad of Mack The Knife."
This is epic drama and an important piece of musical history. Opens this week through 2 February.

There is Jerry Lewis and their there is Mel Brooks, the crown prince of zany. NCT opens 25 January with one of the most hilarious musicals in history, THE PRODUCERS.  Belly laughs galore, most especially wih the jaw dropping production number, "Springtime for Hilter and Germany!"
The remainder of the season is prime time entertainment. NCT premieres in Delaware LEGALLY BLOND. Next is FOREVER PLAID, a nod to the harmonies of the '50's and then the dynamite A CHORUS LINE.
