Two students were injured this morning when a school bus loaded with W.T. Chipman Middle School students was hit by a car.
A school bus loaded with W.T. Chipman Middle School students was involved in a crash with a car this morning, State Police are investigating the matter.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:48 a.m. as Robert E. Everett was driving a 2009 IC Corp. school bus eastbound on Burnite Mill Road with the right turn signal on was preparing to turn right into the parking lot of Moore’s Garage just east of Sandtown Road. Randi E. Boyd was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier eastbound behind another car which was directly behind the school bus, Boyd she was unable to slow her vehicle in time and pulled onto the shoulder. The Cavalier continued eastbound on the shoulder before striking the school bus on the right side.
A 13-year-old girl and 14-year-old girl who were seated in the last row were injured in the crash and were removed from the scene by EMS. Both were transported to Kent General Hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Robert Everett, who was properly restrained, was not injured in the crash.
Randi Boyd, who was properly restrained, was not injured in the crash and was cited for Carless Driving.
The eastbound lane of Burnite Mill Road was closed for approximately an hour as the crash was investigated and cleared. A second bus from Chambers was used to transport the students to school.
