For refusing to toe the party line over same-sex marriage in Illinois, state GOP Chairman Pat Brady [above] is now facing an intra-party backlash with some Republican officials calling for his resignation.

In the waning days of the state Senate’s lame-duck session, Brady encouraged his GOP colleagues to support the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act. Brady noted his statements were made as a private citizen and not as part of his official role with the Illinois Republican Party.
