  • My New Year's Resolution which is really my prayer is that 2013 will be a year of the Faith based community rising and uniting to do greater works in the community.
There are many issues and concerns that need our attention. It is time for us to come together no matter what denomination and be the leaders that God has called us to be.
We can't just worship on Sunday morning and go home after the benediction. There are far too many youth suicides. We need to explore problems within our public schools. There are still people unregistered to vote. We need more activities for our young people. We still have issues of domestic violence, women's issues, bullying, hunger, violence, drugs and alcohol homelessness, and too many people in prison.
It is my theological belief that our ability, authority and mandate to make a great impact in society are based on John 14:12. In the story of the Samaritan Woman at the Well found in John 4, we learn that Jesus was concerned and cared about the social outcast, the oppressed and those whom society rejects. He wanted equality for all. He tore down barriers: religious differences, cultural, racial, gender and the sinful/righteous.
So, my sisters and brothers in the faith based community, now that we have a street named Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. we have much to do. Let's also build a monument and engrave names of people from the local community who have made significant contributions and pass on history.
Let's also unite as one with the community, the elected officials, businesses, fraternities, sororities, other community based organizations, educators, police, etc. have a Call To Action and hear the needs straight from the residents of the community.
Prioritize needs, and work on one issue at a time, making life and opportunities better for all men, women, boys and girls. Let's rise, be leaders and make a positive impact!
