  • Dover and Delaware State Police worked together to arrest a Smyrna man for allegedly selling drugs and possessing drug paraphernalia at the Comfort Inn and Suites off Leipsic Road in Dover Wednesday night.
Officers from the Dover Police Drug, Vice and Organized Crime Unit / Operation Safe Streets with the assistance of the Delaware State Police Governor's Task Force arrested Augustine F. Butcher, 36, at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday after the joint investigation, Dover Police Lt. Daniel McKeown said.
Butcher was charged with possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine, possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and tampering with physical evidence, McKeown said.
Officers knew Butcher was wanted on outstanding warrants, McKeown said. As they attempted to contact Butcher at the hotel room he ran from officers and resisted arrest as he attempted to flush some of the drugs down the toilet.
A search of the hotel room uncovered 23 bags of heroin, 6.8 grams of crack cocaine, 23 hydrocodone pills and $644 of suspected drug money, McKeown said.
The defendant was wanted on numerous outstanding warrants from Smyrna Police Department and also had numerous bench warrants from court, he said.
