  • The Polytech girls' basketball team defeated Red Lion Christian Academy in the B-Bracket consolation game in the Pat Borowski Holiday Basketball Tournament hosted at Lake Forest High School.

  • The Polytech girls' basketball team defeated Red Lion Christian Academy in the B-Bracket consolation game in the Pat Borowski Holiday Basketball Tournament hosted at Lake Forest High School.
    "We were glad to participate in this holiday tournament. We were a little disappointed in our play against Woodbridge in the previous game, but we learned a lot and the should get us ready for the rest of the season when we get into conference play," said Polytech coach Oscar Walker
    The Lady Panthers established their dominance in the early going and built an 18-5 lead after one period.
    Red Lion had plenty of difficulty dealing with the Panthers definite size advantage and was unable to generate an inside game on offense. This predicament also kept the Lions off the offense and defense boards all day.
    Meahwhile, Polytech;s balanced offense kelp rolling in the second period as they build the lead to 30-11 heading into the locker room at halftime.
    The Panthers' Alexsandra Mycek had 8 points at the half and Sarah Hillman and Maxine Joseh each had six points at the break. The Lions' Summer Pollinger totaled 9 points at the half.
    Red Lion made a strong defense effort early in the third period, but the Panthers' size eventually wore them down. The were able to slow down Polytech, but they couldn't control their opponents, Bt]y the end of the third period, the Panthers increased their lead to 41-15.
    In the fourth quarter, the pattern stayed the same, as Polytech dominated on the boards at both ends, shot better from the field and eventually pulled away for the 55-22 consolation victory.
    "We though this was a great tournament. We definitely saw some excellent competition, and we would definitely participate in this tournament again," said Red Lion coach Tom Berry.
    Maxine Joseph led the Panthers with 9 points, while Mycek and Hillman each had 8, and Amanda Deputy added 7 points for the victors. Kiara Carrier was the top scorer with 11 points, Pollinger finished with 9 and Colleen Whitley had two points for Red Lion.
