A 16-year-old Lake Forest High School student was arrested this morning after it was discovered that he brought a BB gun with him to school.
Police say at around 7:10 a.m. this morning, as students were exiting the buses at Lake Forest High School in Felton, a teacher was made aware that the 16-year-old was carrying a gun.
The teacher alerted the school administrators and school resource officer who immediately made contact with the student in the hallway and escorted him to an unoccupied office, police said.
A search of the student's backpack revealed a plastic BB gun and a clip loaded with BBs. A parent of the student was contacted and soon arrived at the school to take custody of the teen.
The student was issued a criminal summons for carrying a concealed dangerous instrument, and he will appear in Kent County Family Court at a later date for arraignment, police said.
