Redner's and town of Camden officials anticipate a March grand opening for the new market under construction off U.S. Route 13.

THE DETAILS The 48,000 square-foot Redner's Market under construction in Camden would have all the usual Redner's amenities once completed, including a full service grocery, in-store bakery, deli, seafood, produce and meat departments, Redner's spokesman Eric White said.

The new store would also feature frozen, dairy, health and beauty aids/non-foods departments, and customers would also be able to take advantage of Redner's Pump Perks gasoline discount program and redeem at the onsite station, White said.

"Since its inception in 2008, Redner's Pump Perks fuel rewards have saved its customers more than $2.5 million in fuel purchases," he said.

Lastly, the store features UScan Check-Out Terminals, Redbox video rental services and Western Union money services.

THE PROGRESS "We are looking at March, 2013 pending all approvals and permits are met," White said.

G. Kevin Bengel was the engineer hired for the project, Quick & Associates was the architect, Melvin L. Joseph Construction and SMJ Construction conducted site work and Redner's Director of New Projects Mark Hallacher was the construction manager, White said. Financing was provided by M&T Bank.

The Camden property is owned by CR Plaza LLC, named after Caesar Rodney, for which Mike Zimmerman, owner of BBC Properties, is the managing partner. Zimmerman said the Redner's project had finally become what his firm envisioned five years ago.

"It is a new gateway to Camden offering solutions to the traffic jams by the schools and providing new jobs to the community while adding to the tax base," Zimmerman said.

Camden Mayor W.G. Edmanson lauded Redner's for conducting improvements to U.S. Route 13 and Old North Road in order to relive congestion. Edmanson also said it was great that Redner's was still on target for its early- to mid-spring grand opening, as originally laid forth.

By the time it opened, Redner's would have hired 150 full-time and part-time employees for the Camden location, White said. The town of Camden store would be the third in Kent County and the fourth Delaware. The Redner's is already open in Cheswold and Milford, while another store is under construction at the old Superfresh in west Dover.
