Like many new shows, Fox's The Mindy Project is still finding its voice and creative direction. The comedy recently dropped a couple of regulars as part of a slight retooling, but the central conceit hasn't changed: Mindy Kaling stars as an ob-gyn looking to balance love, life and career. Chris Messina and Ed Weeks costar as her colleagues and romantic foils, while Kaling's old Office flame B.J. Novak (a consultant on the series) will guest star in an upcoming episode. Showrunner Matt Warburton tells us why we should book an appointment with The Mindy Project.

TV Guide Magazine: Who should watch The Mindy Project?
Warburton:
Guys, girls, guys trying to impress girls. Aspiring gynecologists.

TV Guide Magazine: Give us an equation for your show.
Warburton:
The Mindy Project = ER - half an hour + jokes and romance x fun.

TV Guide Magazine: What's an alternate title?
Warburton:
The Mindy Project Results Show

TV Guide Magazine: What's the key difference between The Mindy Project and MTV's The Pauly D Project?
Warburton:
I can't think of any.

TV Guide Magazine: Tell us an idea that didn't make it out of the writers' room.
Warburton:
Mindy's character quits being a doctor to try out for The Voice. This actually scared two networks.

TV Guide Magazine: If you didn't have this show, what series would you most like to work on?
Warburton:
I'd be a cameraman on Deadliest Catch.

TV Guide Magazine: How will your show change the face of TV?
Warburton:
We try to make a 30-minute romantic comedy every week. If that doesn't work, at least America now knows that [basketball player] Baron Davis' favorite romantic comedy is Splash.

TV Guide Magazine: With which series would you like to do a crossover?
Warburton:
Game of Thrones. With her crazy spiky heels, Mindy could win any battle in Westeros. And we could finally do more nudity.
